However, employers have criticised the quality of training offered in universities and colleges citing the disconnect with active demands in the job market.

To bridge the gap, some institutions, working together with private organisations in the country, have taken up the charge to equip the learners with training and knowledge to guide them to the best conceivable career path.

Such a residency programme for learners has been rolled out by Light International School Nairobi working in conjunction with organisations such as Heart Rhythm Centre, Skyward Express and Meridian Equator Hospital.

The programme gives learners a participatory experience of a real workroom before they apply for university at the end of their educations.

Yasin Yakut, a School Principal who originated the agenda, said it is planned to assist learners to make informed choices as far as career choices are concerned. So far, forty students have benefitted from the agenda.

He described the scheme as an important stepping stone that prepares students with the necessary skill before they settle on which careers to pursue.

Yakut also added “It is a one-of-a-kind chance to help our learners to learn what is likely of them. We are making them for top universities in the world and this agenda assists us to understand this objective.”

The principal established a team led by Nebert Mukongolo, a corporate relations expert, which then protected institutions willing to take in their learners.

Mr Mukongolo, the project coordinator, said the 1-month programme started with an alignment on August 10. Interested learners had to secure their parents’ accord before they joined.

He said they put the learners through a difficult orientation where they had to obey to a strict work profile with an intricately stated objective.
