Kenya unveils new TSC salary scale for teachers

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in Kenya has announced a new TSC salary scale to boost the morale of teachers and reward their hard work. The new salary scale is set to bring more than Ksh. 35 billion to the sector in the current financial year.

    • Higher minimum salary: All teachers will now receive a minimum salary of Kshs. 30,000 per month, an increase of 21.7% from the previous rate of Kshs. 24,640.
    • Compensation for overtime: Teachers will now be compensated for any overtime work on a monthly basis.
    • Bonus payments: Teachers will receive a one-time bonus payment in December of up to Kshs. 10,000.
    • Cost of living allowance: Teachers will receive a cost of living allowance of up to Kshs. 10,000 per month.
    • Housing allowance: Teachers who are actively employed and living outside their county headquarters will be entitled to a housing allowance of up to Kshs. 6,000 per month.
