Rules to prevent cheating.
Knec has spelt out regulations that must be obeyed to administer national examinations.
The tough rules also spell out strict penalties that will affect both examination administrators and candidates found culpable.
In addition, this details arose in a meeting with all chief examiners of KCSE, KCPE and KPSEA.
Dr David Njengere, the Knec chief executive officer, said this year, has been a exclusive academic year.
He said that in a regular school calendar year, Knec administers 2 examinations.
However, this year, they will administer a total of 5 examinations.
Therefore, He advised stakeholders to share ideas and experiences on how to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the marking of the national examinations.
Rules to prevent cheating are:
- Candidates not being permitted any extra time while sitting KCSE and KCPE tests.
- Unnecessary movements by candidates when the examinations are underway.
- Any form of communication between strangers and candidates within or outside the school compound.
- Any form of misbehaviour by candidates will be pickled as an attempt to fraud in the examinations.
- Candidates who will be involved in any form of misconduct or cause disturbance will be punished.
- Within the examination rooms, candidates are warned from exposing their question answers to fellow candidates.
- Candidates are advised not to leave their answers in such a position that another candidate can read them.
- They should not obtain or give unfair assistance whether by copying or in any other way.
- Candidates work should not show proof of any unfair assistance.
- Candidates, who will have short notes and carry them to the examination room will face penalties.
- Knec warned against gaining access to examination material and revealing the contents.
- This will attract a consequence or a fine not exceeding Sh2 million or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years, or both.
- It will be punishable for any person to cruelly damage examination material.
- Impersonation is cautioned to those who intend to sit the examinations on behalf of candidates.
- If any candidate obligates an assessment irregularity in any paper, the results for the whole subject will be cancelled.
