There is now hope for thousands of teachers following exposure that talks are going on between TSC and the president on the likelihood of recruiting 58,000 teachers in the present financial year.
If it comes to pass, the enrollment would be in line with President William Ruto campaign pledge, that if chosen his government would hire 116,000 teachers in 2 years to bridge the existing shortage in public schools.
However, it would be the single largest enrolment of teachers ever and would push the number of teachers on the government staff to 400,000.
The exposure was made on yesterday by Teachers Service Commission CEO Dr Nancy Macharia during celebrations to mark World Teachers Day at the Kenya School of Government in Nairobi.
She, however, did not deliver the timelines for the enrolment. The plight of unemployed teachers was a key campaign concern.
Recruting new teachers
She said that, discussions are ongoing with the Presidency on teacher enrolment and we shall keep you posted of the progress as we go along.
We shall be informing you how to go on with this enrollment as per the Kenya Kwanza Charter. Be certain that the Kenyan teacher can only suppose good things going forward.
In the education charter contracted with the unit in the education sector in June, the President devoted to ensure that the existing teacher shortage of 116,000 is fully spanned within the first 2 years by recruiting 58,000 teachers at a cost of Kshs25 billion every year.
Although, during yesterday’s event, Kessha chairperson Indimuli Khai, defied the President to fulfil his promise. Recruting new teachers.
Khai added that public schools were wholly understaffed and that board of management had to employ teachers for the pretentious subjects.
He added that the President offered him a signed copy of that agreement. He would like to prompt him that he promised to hire half of the gap in his first financial year.
