Tsc will only award salary increment to teachers who have served for at least three years in a job group.
The commission got a nod when it requests of Shs 2.2billion for promotion of teachers was approved by lawmakers in parliament.
Teachers who have stagnated I one job group for a period of 3 years and more now have a reason to smile following this latest move.
BAC and BPS has also proposed additional allocation to enable Teachers Service Commission to promote about 14,000 teachers who despite having higher qualification have stagnated in one position.
A Budget and Appropriation Committee has added an addition of Shs 2.2billion for the promotion of teachers which was chaired by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.
The commission plans to promote teachers from C1 teachers to C2, C2 teachers to C3, C3 teachers to C4.
After appearing in Parliament, Dr Macharia said that Shs 6million will be used to move 4, 595 Primary school teachers, currently in job group C1 to job group C2.
Another Shs 4million will be used to promote 2,637 graduate teachers to job group C4 from job group C3. Over Shs 175million will be used to promote 652 graduate teachers in grade D3 to grade D4.
The commission is seeking to promote 13,713 principals, Deputy principals, senior masters, secondary teachers, headteachers and Deputy headteachers in secondary and primary schools.
The highest vacancy in the category is Deputy Headteachers for primary schools which has 7,720 posts.
Currently TSC promotion interviews are ongoing in counties. Among those shortlisted for promotion interviews are those seeking to be Headteachers.
Teachers Service Commission already said that those who are in acting capacity will be given the priority more so those in ASAL and hard to staff areas.
Jully Melly, the Education Committee’s Chairman has urged the commission to compensate and promote teachers who had stagnated in the same job group for any years as well as those who have been working in an acting capacity.
Promotion to deputy and Head teachers should not be only for those who attained higher grade for some cannot even deliver consider those who went to school early and teachers living with disability. They should have lower grade for promotion
